In this occasional series I will open up to some of my less happy Internet Marketing secrets and tell you my rather unsuccessful journey to making millions on the internet (NOT LOL). For many years I have succumbed to what is know as the Shiny Button Syndrome – buy this course/software – press this button and money will come pouring out.
So I bought the course/software and realised on the other side (in the course teaching) that what was needed was hard work and perseverance to succeed. This generally led to total overwhelm and eventually giving up.
This has gone on for the best part of 20 years now and this blog is my last effort to create something online that is not about the money but about sharing both who I am and my experience.
My name is Rob Gordon and I am a Geek – I have been an IT professional for over 30 years and for around 20 of these I ran my own IT Consultancy company. This ran very successfully and I travelled all over Europe and met some amazing people working on different projects for many fortune 500 companies. My success was born out of hard work and consistency.
However, when it came to the internet and trying to start a business online I just kept jumping on the next bandwagon and trying to short circuit things. After 20 years of jumping around I have come to realise that it has to be like any other business – you start one step at a time from zero and slowly build up. This is what people like Richard Branson did – its no good looking at where they are now, you need to see where they came from and what they did to go from zero to one dollar and one dollar to two etc.
So, for me no more shiny buttons. I am going to take this a step at a time (with a mentor who is teaching me one step at a time) – I am going to persevere and because its one step at a time I will not get overwhelmed.
So drop back next time and I will share some of my SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experience. If you have a web site and its not getting traffic these ten simple hacks will help you turn that around.
